Breed Specific Legislation

The AKC does not support the highly controversial breed ban legislations throughout Canada.  Although we agree that dog regulations are necessary, banning particular breeds will not solve the issues of dog attacks.  We are working with our provincial and municipal governments to find common ground to effective and responsible owners dog regulations.  Our emphasis is to educate the dog owner no matter what the breed they possess.  All dogs have the propensity to bite, no matter what the breed.  It is for this reason, that owners should be held responsible if that dog bites and penalties imposed on the owner.  The deed should be punished not the dog breed.  More information is available on the CKC web site.
