Most of my research will involve applied mathematics
and some computer programming, I already have access
to most of the tools I need, including books, journals,
computer, Mathematica, Fortran compiler, plotting
software, and LATEX and related tools. If later
in the course of the Ph.D. thesis it is deemed
desirable to check my theoretical results against
real data over known geology, perhaps one of The Geomechanics Project's
supporting companies would provide it free of charge
in exchange for first access to my results of testing
such real data against my modelling methods.
My supervisory committee will be here much of the
time during the research period and when a member is away
interaction can continue via e-mail. I expect to
confer with visitors to some degree as well,
for instance during the
11th IWSA conference late this coming July.
In addition, I can communicate by e-mail and by math newsgroups
with remote mathematicians knowledgeable in the area of FIOs,
as I have already done to a minor degree. Similar correspondence
is possible with remote experts in seismic ray theory and/or
anisotropy.
