Harry's Newfoundland and Labrador

Atlantic Salmon Flies

Collection

Many of the standard fly patterns are used extensively in Newfoundland and Labrador (you can never go wrong with a Blue Charm) but often these flies are given a local twist or flavour. Moose are common here and local flytiers often substitute this stiff dark hair in the wings of flies. Fished using the Portland Hitch this wing material gives the fly an attractive (at least to salmon) riffling action.

Our local original patterns tend to be relatively simple in construction without suffering any loss in fish "killing ability" and often out fish fancy "Mainland" flies. Certain flies are often more popular on particular rivers and where possible this information will be included with the description of the fly.

The following list of patterns is far from complete and no doubt will always be under construction. If visitors have a favourite fly, or know of a river where a particular pattern is commonly used, they can E-mail the pattern to me and I would be pleased to add it .
