CHRISTENING:
1. Per Everett Bishop's e-mail on February 05, 2001:
"Another bit of information about the New Harbour Bishop's. By 1826 George had married Elizabeth Williams, and their son William was born on September 6, 1826. Baptized by Rev Mr Bullock of Trinity at New Harbour on Oct 9, 1826. (PANL vol. 63)."
2. NGB's transcription of St. Paul's Anglican Church Baptism Records has the following entry:
No. 571
Date: Oct 9th 1826
Child's Name: William
Parents: George & Elizabeth Bishop
Abode: New Harbor
Profession: Planter
Baptised By: William Bullock3. There is no mention of a birth date in the baptism record on NGB, so I am unsure where Everett got the 1826 birth date from. Per the 1889 Electors list below, William would have been born about 1823. Calculated birth from his headstone would be about 1815.
VOTERS LIST:
1. Per the transcription sent by Everett Bishop of the 1870 Electors List New Harbour:
William Bishop
2. Per the transcription sent by Everett Bishop of the 1889 Electors List New Harbour:
William son of George; age 66
OCCUPATION:
1. In "Pothead and Drumhoops" by Garry Cranford & Ray Hillier is a note that William Bishop built a ship for James Hippisley. The ship, a 68 ton schooner named "Scout" was built at New Harbour in 1876. SCOUT schr 68 - Lost at S.E. Cove, Long Island, Lab. Oct 11, 1885" Presumably it was built by this William Bishop.
2. In Willis P. Martin's "Two Outports: A History of Dildo - New Harbour" he cites the above but says she was lost in 1835 - this is apparently just a typo and he too meant 1885.
Eliza 1 was born 2 calculated 1830. She died 3 on Jul 05 1893 and was buried 4 in Cat Cove Cemetery, New Harbour, Trinity Bay, Newfoundland. Eliza married William BISHOP.
