"NEWHOOK, Frederick James (Retired Teacher) - Passed peacefully away on Sunday, June 6th, 1999 at the Health Science Centre, Frederick James Newhook in his 87th year. Ever loved and remembered by his wife Gwendolyn; his two children: Linda G. Gosse (Robert) and John F. (Mary), Vancouver, B.C.; grandchildren: Janet Gosse, Clarenville, Sandra Gosse, St. John`s, Peter Gosse (Natalie), Halifax, N.S. and John Huxter (Judy), London, England; three great-grandchildren: Madeline Gosse, Holly and Emily Huxter; sisters: Minnie Baldwin, Wilmington, N.C. and Betty Ivany, St. John`s; sisters-in-law: Daphne Thurman, St. John`s and Sybil Cummings, Montreal, Que; brother-in-law, George Cummings (Dorothy), St. John`s; also many nieces, nephews and special friends. DEATH:1. Per The Year of Events for 1925 from the St. John's Daily News as transcribed by John Baird and Chris Shelley [ChrisS@StarlingConsulting.com] and posted on the NF-Roots List:
"1925 - JANUARY - A man named NEWHOOK, of Norman's Cove, Trinity Bay, perished in severe storm when traveling homeward. His body was discovered many days later a mile east of Tickle Harbor."
(Although this Newhook is not identified specifically and no date is given, I am assuming this is John Newhook's death notice. The reference is placed between two other deaths dated January 7th and January 23rd, 1925 which makes this a possibility.)
