He was employed as Planter 12 1826 in New Harbour, Trinity Bay, Newfoundland.

CHRISTENING:

1. Per Everett Bishop's e-mail February 05, 2001: George and his brother Henry were baptized at New Harbour on August 25, 1803 by a minister from St. Paul's Anglican Church in Trinity.

2. Per the NGB's transcription of St. Paul's Anglican Parish, Trinity, Trinity Bay Parish Records of Baptisms for 1801-1805:

" 1803 - Aug 25 - Two Sons to the Late WILLIAM & MARY BISHOP of this Harb'r Priv'y Named GEORGE Aged 3 years and HENRY Aged 6 months."

MARRIAGE:

1. Per Everett Bishop's e-mail on February 05, 2001:

"Another bit of information about the New Harbour Bishop's. By 1826 George had married Elizabeth Williams, and their son William was born on September 6, 1826. Baptized by Rev Mr Bullock of Trinity at New Harbour on Oct 9, 1826. (PANL vol. 63)."

VOTERS LIST:

1. Per the transcription sent by Everett Bishop of the 1835-38 Electors List New Harbour:

George Bishop

DEATH:

1. We know that George lived until at least February 1839. According to Garry Cranford's book "Potheads and Drumhoops: A Folk History of New Harbour" (Page 27), George was among the group of citizens that received aid (bread) from the commissioners of the New Harbour District of Charity.

NOTES:

1. Information on this Elias - George - William link is speculation at best. I am including this linkage only because it seems plausible. Additional information is required to prove this link. There was a George (father of William) of William and Mary Hillier in New Harbour and an Elias of George in Heart's Delight/Islington. I am making the assumption that this is the same George. However, the Heart's Delight/Islington George might be a descendant/sibling/cousin to Joseph Bishop of Heart's Delight. There is no information to link Joseph to George or William so far.

2. Everett Bishop says "Also, the first Bishop in HD was George, who was there in the period 1835 to 1838, at the same time that there was a George Bishop in New Harbour (son of William and Mary). I also don't know where HD George came from. He is not my ancestor, but he is the ancestor of all the Bishop's in HD (and I think Islington and Cavendish as well) except those descended from my Joseph. So there are two distinct branches of the Bishop family in HD, as far as I know." This seems to preclude the possibility that George of William in New Harbour is the same George in Heart's Delight/Islington.

3. Per Everett Bishop: "I don't seem to recall to the Cavendish Bishop's, but I will have a look. I thought that the original Bishop link to Heart's Delight was when Elias moved first from HD to Islington (Island Cove) (Voters' list 1870) and then to Cavendish. In 1894-98 (sic) he was living in Cavendish, the only Bishop listed by McAlpine that year.... There was also a Levi living at Whiteway at the time and I'm not sure where he came from. There was a Levi from New Harbour, son of George, who was descended from William who came out from Dorset in 1797. But that Levi was living in New Harbour in 1889 (Voters' List of 1889) and still there in 1904 (McAlpine)."

4. Per Ross Hillier: Regarding the Bishop residence and fishing premises of Cat Cove, during Ross' school days, John Bishop was living in the original home with his adopted son Philip Smith and his Fanny Reid.... John Bishop's wharf was still in good condition. William Bishop's headstone was in the original cemetery at Cat Cove. His stone was directly in front of the gate.

Elizabeth WILLIAMS 1 married 2 George BISHOP NH before 1826.

note to self: per document formativeyears.htm in newharbour directory

"By 1823, Thomas WIlliams had moved onto land north of the Lester-Garland premises, along the beach toward Hopeall Head. "
