William James JACKSON [Parents] 1, 2, 3 was born 4, 5, 6, 7 about Sep 1874 in Cavendish, Trinity Bay, Newfoundland and was christened 8 on May 14 1875 in Green's Harbour, Trinity Bay, Newfoundland. He died 9 about 1940. William married 10 Flora Ann Critch BISHOP on Nov 08 1897 in Shoal Bay (Cavendish), Trinity Bay, Newfoundland. William joined religion Anglican after his wife's death. 11.

Other marriages:
CHISLETT, Louisa

CHRISTENING:

1. Per the NGB's transcription of Green's Harbour Parish Record of Baptisms for 1867-1903 & NL GenWeb's Transcription of same for 1873 - 1884:

"WILLIAM JAMES JACKSON - son of - WILLIAM & MARY JACKSON - of - SHOAL HR., age 7 MONTHS. BAPTIZED MAY 14, 1875."

2. JLB note, given the census month of birth below is September and the Census is notoriously wrong for year of birth when the month is after August (month when the Census was taken), and that the baptism states he was 7 months old for a mid-May baptism, I suspect that his birthdate would be after September 14th 1874 but before Oct 01 1874. Second, although he was baptised William James, I suspect he went by Jim or James to avoid confusion with his father.

DEATH:

1. Joyce (Bishop) Dobbie's notes indicate that he died at age 65.

NOTES:

1. According to Violet (Jackson) Bishop: Aunt Louise and Uncle Jim Jackson's house once stood on the land that Jake and Eileen Jackson's house is now on. Jake and Eileen's house is at least over 60 years old (and possibly over 100 years) old.

CENSUS:

1. The 1921 Census of Cavendish includes the following entry:

Jackson; James; Cavendish; M; Head; Married; 1873; Sept; 48; Cavendish
Jackson; Louisa; Cavendish; F; Wife; Married; 1877; May; 44; Islington
Jackson; Ernest; Cavendish; M; Son; Single; 1900; Aug; 21; Cavendish
Jackson; Elfred; Cavendish; M; Son; Single; 1902; June; 18; Cavendish
Jackson; Llewlyn; Cavendish; M; Son; Single; 1905; Dec; 16; Cavendish
Jackson; Eugene; Cavendish; M; Son; Single; 1919; Jan; 2; Cavendish

Flora Ann Critch BISHOP [Parents] 1, 2, 3, 4 was born 5, 6, 7 in 1878 in Cavendish, Trinity Bay, Newfoundland. She died 8, 9 on May 06 1907 in Cavendish, Trinity Bay, Newfoundland and was buried 10 in Cavendish, Trinity Bay, Newfoundland. Flora married 11 William James JACKSON on Nov 08 1897 in Shoal Bay (Cavendish), Trinity Bay, Newfoundland.

DEATH:

1. According to Joyce (Bishop) Dobbie's notes Flora Ann died sometime after the birth of Mary Ann. I am assuming that she died in childbirth or as a result of complications from childbirth. I assume this was in 1907, as by 1911, her husband James William was remarried to Louisa Chislett and had another child.

2. Per the NL GenWeb's deaths of the Green's Harbour Parish for 1874-1913:

NAME Jackson, Flora Ann
AGE 29 yrs.
DATE OF DEATH May 6,1907
CAUSE OF DEATH (blank)
DATE OF BURIAL unknown
PLACE OF DEATH Cavendish
PLACE OF BURIAL Cavendish
NAME OF DOCTOR (blank)
OFFICIATING MINISTER E.Taylor
PLACE OF BIRTH Cavendish

NOTES:

1. Violet (Jackson) Bishop says she had several children that died young. One son named Jack died of epilepsy. This may be confused with Alfred John who died of tuberculosis.

They had the following children:

F i Esther Ann JACKSON 1, 2 was born 3, 4 on Oct 18 1897 in Shoal Harbour (Cavendish), Trinity Bay, Newfoundland and was christened 5 on Nov 14 1897 in Green's Harbour, Trinity Bay, Newfoundland. She died 6 about 1901.

CHRISTENING:

1. Per the NL GenWeb's Green's Harbour Parish Baptisms for 1891-1899:

"ESTHER ANN JACKSON - daughter of - JAMES & FLORA A. CRITCH - of - SHOAL BAY(HR), BORN OCT.18,1897. BAPTIZED NOV.14,1897."

JLB, the above is ambiguous about the names of the parents, but according to family Esther Ann JACKSON is the daughter of William James JACKSON and Flora Ann Critch (nee BISHOP) JACKSON, I believe the entry is confused because Esther was born before her parents married.

DEATH:

1. Joyce (Bishop) Dobbie's notes indicate that she died at age 4 years.
  M ii Ernest JACKSON
M iii Alfred John JACKSON 1 was born 2 in 1902. He died 3 about 1926.

DEATH:

1. Joyce (Bishop) Dobbie's and Pat Stewart's notes indicate that Henry died while on a fishing trip to the Labrador coast. He was salted in and brought home to Shoal Harbour (Cavendish) for burial.

2. According to the book "Where once they Stood...", Shoal Harbour / Cavendish 1845- 1997, it was Henry born 1779 that died on the Labrador coast.

NOTES:

1. Per Pat Stewart: According to the Encyclopedia of Newfoundland & Labrador about Cavendish: "Tradition has it that the first settlers were Charles Oakley & John Lockyer who came c.1800 and left shortly afterwards.
