George Frederick MERCER [Parents] 1, 2, 3, 4 was born 5 in Blaketown, Trinity Bay, Newfoundland. He died 6 on Feb 26 1999 in Whitbourne, Trinity Bay, Newfoundland and was buried on Mar 01 1999. George married Margaret NEWHOOK.

1. Killed while plowing the Whitbourne school parking lot in Winter of 1999. Was written about in The Telegram and on local news.
DEATH:
1. From the February 28, 1999 issue of The Telegram:
"MERCER, George Fredrick - Died suddenly in an accident at Whitbourne on Friday, February 26, 1999, George Mercer of Blaketown, age 58 years. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife Margaret, daughters: Rosalind (Gerry) March, Glenda (Don) Lundrigan, sons: Neal (Rita), Craig (fiance Chastity); grandchildren: Cortney, Mitchell and Megan; mother Susie Mercer; three brothers: Winston, Joe and Fred; three sisters: Leta, Lily and Margaret and their families; also leaving a large circle of other relatives and friends. Resting at Holloway`s Funeral Home, Cabot Ave., Whitbourne. Funeral service will be held on Monday, March 1, 1999 at 3:30 p.m. from St. Barnabus Anglican Church, Blaketown. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the family."

Rita Elizabeth NEWHOOK [Parents] 1, 2 was born 3 on Dec 31 1942. She died 4 on Apr 14 2006 in Carbonear General Hospital, Carbonear, Conception Bay, Newfoundland and was buried 5 on Apr 17 2006 in St. Barnabas Cemetery, Blaketown, Trinity Bay, Newfoundland. Rita married Melvin MERCER. Rita resided 6, 7 in Blaketown, Trinity Bay, Newfoundland.
NOTES:
1. Per discussion with several residents of Old Shop on a visit to the Anglican Cemetery, a child of Rita (Newhook) Mercer is buried on the lower left-hand corner of the cemetery, just above the infant grave of Florence and Ellis Newhook's child.

Mercer, Rita Elizabeth (Newhook) Dec. 31, 1942 - April 14, 2006 - On Friday, April 14, 2006, Rita E. Mercer (Newhook) of Blaketown passed away at the Carbonear General Hospital after a lengthy but courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by her loving family at the age of 63 years. Predeceased by baby daughter Marilyn Diane and parents Albert and Elsie Newhook. Leaving to mourn with fond and precous memories husband Melvin, son Derrick (Bev), daughter Helen (Brian) four grandchildren: Travis, Tiffany, Katelynd and Chanelle, four brothers: Leroy (Kathleen), Albert (Greta), Raymond and Bruce (Laura), three sisters: Emily (Cyril) Pike, Isabel (Alfred) Pretty, Margaret Mercer. Also lovingly remembered by a number of nephews, neices, other relatives and many friends. Resting at Warren's Funeral Home, Dildo, with visition on Saturday and Sunday from 6-10 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Monday, April 17, 2006 at 2 p.m. from St. Barnabas Church, Blaketown. Interment to follow at St. Barnabas Cemetery. No flowers by request.
