Kathy Phippard is a singer/pianist/songwriter/recording artist
born in Placentia, Newfoundland, Canada. She became
interested in music at a very early age. She pursued a Bachelor
of Music Degree in Performance from McGill University,
Montreal, during which time she also studied under Aube
Tzerko in Aspen, Colorado. She was half of the songwritting
duo Siren's Whisper, releasing a collection of fourteen original
songs titled The Spell Is Cast. Kathy then performed as
keyboard player and backing vocalist for The Irish
Descendants, winning a JUNO award and two gold albums
during the three years she was a member. She has many other
recordings to her credit, including Heart of a Man (11:11,
Nfld. Women Sing Songs).
Kathy has just released her remixed debut solo album Outside
Lookin' In with Candle View, along with a title tract video.
The title song, Outside Lookin' In won first prize in the
Prestigious Unisong International songwriting Contest in Los
Angeles, and also has won the SOCAN Song of the YEAR
Award at the Music Industry Association of Newfoundland
and Laborador Awards show for 1998. Kathy has also been
nominated for MIANL's Female Artist of the year for two
consecutive years.
Outside Lookin' In features soaring , moving vocals ,
accomplished piano playing, and outstanding performances
by some of Eastern Canada's finest musicians.

a CBC televised concert "Stan Rogers, An East Coast Tribute" from the Rebecca Cohn Auditorium in Halifax, N.S.
Before her invitation to become a member of "The Irish Descendants", she was performing constantly as a background vocalist for the Newfoundland Celtic folk group " Figgy Duff ", and then as one half of the songwriting duo "Sirens' Whisper". Their CD titled "The Spell Is Cast" was released in 1993 and was very successful. This led to a feature story and performance of their music on CBC Televisions' "Sunday Arts and Entertainment".
Kathy has been in demand as a studio musician and has many recordings to her credit, both in St. John's and cities such as Halifax and Toronto.
