About the Festival

Since 1993 the Shakespeare By The Sea Festival has been performing the works of that famous Bard all around the St. John's area - from the cliff-top meadows of Logy Bay to the historic World War Two bunkers at Cape Spear National Historic Site of Canada - from the cobblestoned courtyard of the Murray Premises to the lush landscapes of Bowring Park. There are so many places that inspire us in the outdoors of our beautiful province - you never know where we may turn up next!

We do not boast a roster of international stars or massive sets and special effects. What we do have to offer is a local troupe of talented, volunteer artists whose love for their work is as boundless as the energy with which they present it! Our approach is modest without sacrificing artistic pleasure. To date, over 600 people have volunteered as actors, musicians, technicians, designers and so much more with the Shakespeare By The Sea Festival!

The Shakespeare By The Sea Festival has become a valued treasure for both locals and visitors alike who return year after year to re-experience our vibrant and accessible productions. The Festival has produced many of Shakespeare's finest works over the years - please join us for our annual summer season and return in years to come!
