$55.55

It is now Jan 25, 2003 and for the few years I have noted numerous coincidences in appearance of the number 55 when I glance at my watch or clocks or the microwave or VCR or even license plates (one was ASH 855) or on bank machine slips or bankbook or in price totals at stores or on tickets (e.g. when I bought two tickets for the MUN Pagan Society 50-50 draw this week one ended in 55). Update: the prize in that 50-50 draw turned out to be $98.55! Now that is odd, since tickets were $1 or 4 for $3 so the split should have been an even dollar or fifty cents. But evidently someone, not me, put in an extra dime by mistake.

On Dec. 16, 2000 I did some festive shopping (even though I am a polytheistic neopagan I celebrate the winter solstice and mark Dec. 25 as the birth of a significant but nondivine religious figure, the past Opener of the way Jesus, who is not a deity to me but is a deity to Christians, and I do exchange gifts with my family who are either atheist or Christian) and for part of it I was in the pagan-friendly bookstore Branwen Books (which has since closed). Without paying much attention to the prices I picked out four books. There was a 15% discount on one of them and 7% tax on all of them. The total came to $55.55. As I noted above, I often see 55 on alarm clocks and microwaves and VCRs and more, as a coincidence, and I took the double occurrence in $55.55 to be a good omen.

Also 55 in Roman numerals is LV, which I take to mean LOVE, one of my deities.

Also on The Freedom Sessions EP Sarah McLachlan sings Tom Waits' song Ol' 55 but I don't think that is related to my coincidences of 55 since in the song the 55 is the speed limit, I think.
